Mergeable Pty Ltd ("us", "we", or "our") operates the Those Pesky Files application (the "Service"). Those Pesky Files is a macOS utility that helps you locate and remove large or unwanted files and folders based on rules you configure. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and your choices.
Files and folders you select: The app can only access locations you explicitly choose via the standard macOS folder picker. It uses macOS security‑scoped bookmarks to remember access, which you can revoke at any time by removing or changing your configured rules.
Local metadata for operation: File and folder names, paths, sizes, and basic attributes (e.g., whether an item is a directory) within the scopes you selected.
Local error messages: Errors encountered during scanning (e.g., permission failures) are displayed in the app.
No personal identifiers are collected.
No analytics or telemetry is collected.
No data leaves your device. The app has no networking code and does not transmit data to any server or third party.
To search and display results: The app scans within the folders you chose using your rules, shows matching paths, and computes sizes locally.
To perform user‑initiated actions: When you choose to delete a match, the app deletes the selected file or folder from disk.
To improve responsiveness: The app caches file sizes and counters in memory and updates them as sizes are calculated or items are deleted.
Rules and settings: Your search rules (including chosen folders and rule options) are stored locally in the app's Application Support directory as a JSON file.
Security‑scoped bookmarks: macOS stores bookmarks that allow the app to re‑access folders you granted. These remain on your device and can be removed by editing your rules or uninstalling the app.
Caches: File size caches and counters are maintained in memory and/or local process state. They are cleared when you reset or restart a search, or when you quit the app.
The app does not share any data with third parties.
The app does not use third‑party analytics, advertising, or cloud services.
Choose and revoke access: You decide which folders the app can access. Remove or change these in Settings at any time.
Edit or reset rules: You can modify rules or reset to defaults from Settings.
Delete matches: You can delete any listed match. Deletion is permanent (items are not moved to the Trash).
Uninstall: Removing the app deletes its local settings and cached data. Files you previously deleted using the app cannot be restored by uninstalling.
Least‑privilege access: The app operates within the macOS sandbox and only accesses folders you explicitly select.
No network: With no outbound connections, the risk of data exfiltration is minimized.
At‑rest data: Rules are stored as plain JSON on your device; macOS user account protections apply. No additional encryption is performed by the app.
Those Pesky Files is a general‑purpose utility and is not directed to children. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
If this policy changes, an updated version will be made available with a new effective date. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
